Color on a monitor is a starting point — not a specification. The way a Timberline Studio finish reads in morning light is different from how it reads under artificial lighting, at dusk, or with light raking across the surface at an oblique angle.
For dimensional collections like Strata™ and Lumina™, the lighting interaction is the product. A sample board reviewed in your actual project space will tell you more in thirty seconds than any photograph can.
We strongly recommend approving a physical sample before committing to a full order — and reviewing it in the actual project lighting conditions before sign-off.
Every sample is a finished board from our studio — the same substrate, same coating system, and same process as a full production order.
We ship sample boards directly to your office, studio, or job site. No need to visit our San Marcos studio to evaluate a finish.

Samples give you a realistic sense of the natural variation in wood grain, color depth, and texture — so expectations are set correctly before installation.
A real board finished in your specified collection, finish name, and substrate. Approximately 6" × 12" — large enough to evaluate color, texture, and light interaction. Both faces finished where applicable.
Each sample ships with a labeled card showing the collection name, finish name, SKU, substrate, and application type — interior or exterior. Use it for your project files and specification records.

Review your sample board in the actual project space — not on your desk under office lighting. Hold it against the wall surface where it will be installed. Observe it at different times of day and under different lighting conditions. For dimensional finishes like Strata™, position a light source at 15–30° from parallel to the wall to see the full depth effect. Approve the sample before placing your full order.
